I’m so excited to introduce our September Featured Designer, Amber LaBau of Stolen Moments! If you’re not already familiar with her gorgeous designs, you are in for a treat. Not only is she a talented designer, she also runs her own site and she’s a pretty amazing scrapper, too! She is one talented and busy lady. Let’s get to know Amber just a little bit better.
Tell us about yourself:
My name is Amber LaBau, and I design under the name Stolen Moments. Around the forums I’m known as sm_amber and alabau in a few places. I’m a twenty-something mom to 2 delightful little boys who are 4 years and 4 months. My husband is my best friend and we’ve been married for 8 years. All three of my boys make me laugh every single day. 🙂 I work full time outside the home as a box office manager for the college of the arts in my town, so between that, playing mommy, playing designer, playing store owner and sometimes playing house keeper it’s a pretty full life, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
How did you get started in digital scrapbooking and designing?
My husband’s cousin actually introduced me to digital scrapbooking, just with a post on her blog. My first little was 6 months old at the time and I was a SAHM, so I thought it might be a great creative outlet for me. I was an actor before I had kids, so my creative juices were feeling a little under-used.. 😉 Aside from that, I’d always wanted to scrapbook, but was so intimidated by all the beautiful pages I’d seen in stores and magazines I was too afraid to try because I though I’d never be “good enough.” Enter ctrl+z and my life just got a whole lot easier.. 😉
When I first started digital, I did what I think most people do just starting out – trolled the freebie sites like there’s no tomorrow. I picked up a LOT of product, played around with it a little and decided I could probably make some of my own, too. I’d only been collecting kits for 2 weeks when I “released” my first kit, Alphabet Soup. I was so proud of it, and so excited to have 80 downloads the first day, lol.. Looking back it was just awful (obviously) but designing has always been a learning experience for me, and I hope that never changes.. 🙂
What programs do you use?
I primarily use Photoshop CS5, with a bit of Illustrator thrown in.. Occasionally I’ll pull out ArtRage, but not too often..
Can you share a favorite layout of yours?
I had a hard time narrowing it down… 🙂
What is your favorite product?
Oh shoot.. normally it’s the one I’ve just finished, but I think The Luckiest holds a special place in my heart. It was the first kit I designed where I truly felt I had discovered my “style” as a designer, and it just came together effortlessly – only taking 2 days where most kits take me at least 7.
What is your most popular product?
What are some of your inspirations when creating your products?
First and foremost is color! From there I decide the “feeling” I want a kit to have and run with it.. Sometimes it works, sometimes I really struggle, lol.. I have an awesome CT, though, who helps me work through those walls, bouncing ideas back and forth.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Sounds super cliche, but I’d love to go to Europe… anywhere and everywhere!
Where can we find you and your products?
